About Amnesty International
Amnesty International is an independent worldwide human rights
organization of over 1.4 million members. Through grassroots activism and
education, Amnesty International fights to protect and uphold the basic human
rights guaranteed to every individual. Independent of any political
affiliations, Amnesty International is able to expose and speak out against
human rights violations in every nation impartially. The strength of Amnesty
International is its worldwide membership; when we speak out on behalf of
others' human rights, we are protecting those rights for everyone, including
ourselves.
Amnesty International was the recipient of the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to
promote global observance of the
United Nations
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
