Ann Corbett's Trip to Russia

September 2003

Nazran :: Bart refugee camp

While in Nazran, Ann visited several refugee tent camps and talked to some of the residents about their conditions, why they left Chechnya, and their feelings about the recent presidential elections in Chechnya.

Ann also learned about the plight of Ingush refugees who are still unable to return to their homes in North Ossetia more than 10 years after the end of the Georgian/Ossetian conflict. They live in refugee camps, yet do not receive humanitarian assistance because they were not displaced by the Chechen conflict. They have truly been forgotten.
