HOW TO CAN GET MORE INVOLVED
BEFORE COMING TO NYC

There is so much you can do to make Get On The Bus an even stronger event! See below for information on such activities as media coordination, preparing posters and banners for GOTB, fundraising to lower your group's travel costs, or posting to the GOTB blog. If you are interested in volunteering in any way, please e-mail gotbvolunteer@amnesty133.org.

Get informed!
Educate yourself about the issues GOTB is addressing. We will demonstrate for the people of Darfur and Myanmar, to bring to justice those responsible for the murders of journalists in Sri Lanka, for the victims of the Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, and for our special focus case of Fathi el-Jahmi, a Libyan Prisoner of Conscience. You can find more information on our Actions page.

Prepare banners, signs, and chants!
It really helps a demonstration to have a large variety of banners, posters etc. Strive to convey your message in as few words as possible. The writing should be large enough to be read from a far distance. Symbols, pictures and colors are often useful to attract attention. Note: signs mounted on sticks or poles are not permitted in NYC.

Prepare letters!
Write letters regarding the issues GOTB is addressing. Check out Amnesty's webpage to find sample letters.

Be a GOTB Local Coordinator!
Help mobilize and arrange transportation for Amnesty groups in your area. To learn more about responsibilities of a Local Area Coordinator, send email us at gotbvolunteer@amnesty133.org. To find out what a Local Coordinator does, click here.

Promote GOTB!
Write a story for your school's newspaper about the issues GOTB is addressing. Contact local community papers, cable channels or radio stations and pitch them on your group's participation in GOTB. Download this generic press release (in WORD format, or in PDF format) that you can modify for your own group's purposes.

Also, you can post a flyer about GOTB at school, church or workplace. Make copies and give to friends, or put in newsletters or other mailings. Download a PDF of the flyer here.

And... if you bought a GOTB T-shirt from a previous GOTB or at an Amnesty conference, wearing your shirt is a great way to show your support and advertise the event. If you don't have a shirt, they will available for purchase on the day of the event.
