The America I Believe In Action Update

On April 20th, we combed the streets of NYC to gather signatures for the "America I believe in Campaign".  Thanks to you, we've collected nearly 1000 signatures for the "America I believe in pledge", 452 to restore Habeas Corpus, and 190 to close the Guantanamo detention facilities.

On April 27th,  NPR's "This American Life" came out with a re-release of their Peabody winning show entitled "Habeas Schmaebeas".   Learn about the current issues with regards to Habeas and Guantanamo, and about its meaning and history at: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?sched=1185 where you can listen to the podcast for free.  It's an episode not to be missed!

In last week of June (25-29th), as a part of Torture awareness month, Amnesty, in collaboration with the ACLU will be increasing pressure to members of congress to restore Habeas Corpus.  Amnesty Coalition activists from both groups will schedule in-district meetings as well as meetings on the Hill, and will be presenting the signatures we've collected to our representatives.  June 26th will be declared "A Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice".  Amnesty's Denounce Torture campaign and the ACLU invite you to join us on buses, courtesy of the ACLU, to join us for this monumental occasion!  There will be religious leaders, members of Congress, key organizational leaders, and notable celebrities and musicians taking part!  Stay tuned for more information on this in the upcoming weeks!
