It's about time someone finally gave air guitarists some respect. I've been
air guitaring for about 20 years. I've jammed with some of the greatest air
musicians of all time, won numerous contests, and since gone on to a profitable
career in air studio work. I'm constantly praised for my killer tone, which
I call the "transparent sound". But I know what it's like to start at the
bottom and work your way up. Remember aspiring air guitarists of the web,
practice hard, have confidence, and remember: the only thing better than
a tasteful solo is a good spread eagle of the drum riser!

While "air guitar" may seem funny to some people, it is in fact,
no laughing matter. About 20 or so years ago, a man named Phil Riggs of
The infamous "Rigger Express Blues Trio" stumbled upon air guitar,
while hallucinating on opium. "It was as though my hands were melting,
I could only think of playing the blues" he said as he puked over his
"Air Gibson". Oh yeah, this air guitar site could use some serious
revamping. It does reall suck as someone else mentioned. I think you
have a good idea going, that's why I'm here, but you fail miserably in
the creative department. Sorry guys, and keep on air guitaring!!!

an established hardcore Airguitarist I'd like to thank you, Bud, for making
it all happen. My custom build Stratoblaster (with sunburst!) is a real chick
magnet. It's a real joy making that baby scream.
I used to play a YamahAir but a couple of years ago I saw the light and purchased
this beautiful work of art called Stratoblaster.
After some initial problems with the plugging in of wawa-pedals, which your
EXCELLENT customer support solved in no time, the songs just started flowing.
It even survives (without a scratch!! What a machine!!) my Hendrix imitation
when I light it on fire during the show.
What a deal!!

Even harmonics are easier with a quality instrument. There
was only one problem, though. As I'm naturally left-handed,
I wasn't progressing as fast in my lessons using a right-handed
instrument. That's when I was told about the after market
conversion kit, and I'm here to tell ya, those conversions really
flew with the official AIR LINE components by Philson.

This year's OULU MUSIC VIDEO FESTIVAL includes selecting the best Air
Guitarist in the world. The jury led by Juha Torvinen from the most famous
band ever in Finland, Eppu Normaali, gives a Fender Stratocaster electric
guitar to the best Air Guitarist in the world. You can enter the contest
by calling our festival office, tel/fax + 358 8 3128023.
OULU MUSIC VIDEO FESTIVAL organizes a possibility to those with the
ability to play the air guitar to come and show their skills in the massive
street happening of the festival, on the pedestrian street Rotuaari in the
city of Oulu, Finland on Friday 29.8.1997 from 9.30 pm on.
This globally significant competition is open for all air guitar playing
individuals of any age, race, sex or nationality. Each Air Guitarist has
the stage for two minutes - one minute to play Deep Purple's Smoke on the
Water and one during which the Air Guitarist can present his or her show
and skill to the music chosen by him/herself - or without playback at all.
The only real rule is that the contestant may not have an actual guitar to
play, but the guitar must specifically be an invisible air guitar.
The World Champion Air Guitarist will also get fame and glory; last
year's winner Oikku Ylinen from Ilmajoki (i.e. Air River in English!) immediately
got a TV gig and a 50-gig-Finnish-tour, and showed off his champion chops.
A real Fender Stratocaster made of wood and metal awaits the winner of
the contest.

Hey Bud, I just recentlycompleted your training, and, even though i've been
selling out for a year and a half, i finally realized the error of
my ways and trade in my Stratocaster for a Stratoblaster. It's great:
no tuning, no cleaning, no changing strings. The simplicity kills me.
I feel like anything is possible and no solos can hold me down. My
friends and bandmates may be reluctant to change to Philsons from
Fenders, but I think a lot persuasion through torture will change
their tune. And they make great presents; I just bought my 98-year-
old grandmother one, and she's rocking out till her hip goes! I
volunteered to play my Philson for the church, but I think they
misunderstood-they called my parents and the police. They said I'm
a sinner; I them if not playing kick-ass jams is a sin, let me be
damned! So they damned me. It all comes with being a mega-superstar,
I guess.

Has Philson ever considered making air basses or air 12 strings? my friends
are very impressed wwith my Philson, especially the great Santane style sunburst,
but they are really looking forward to the air bass.
P.S. thanks for the great quality, my friends guitars are always out of tune

Very funny site! I prefer the air drums myself Could be a rewarding additional
line of instruments for you. I'd like to suggest a couple of optimum tunes
to play on air guitar, the first one I'm sure you're familiar with; Eruption,
by Eddie Van Halen. Probably the best possible one. The other is the ending
solo by Steve Vai of the song Dumb All Over on Frank Zappa's You Are What
You Is. As far as heavy metal goes have you ever thought of using the heavy
isotope of Oxygen, O18, for the extra thick tone? Talk to Oak Ridge, TN.
They don't refine as much Uranium as they used to. They might let you rent
the gas-diffusion separation plant for cheap. The comments of fellow visitors
are very funny too, especially the ones who posted pictures! Better check
those out. This web site might use a little tweaking, I'm getting screen
corruption when trying to scroll all the way down to see the rest of the
comments. All in All an excellent site. Thank you.

My God! I've been playing air guitar for years. When I started reading
this site I looked down and realized I've been playing a Philson the
whole time! No wonder it's so easy to play Joe Satriani! I can't find
the label on my air drum kit, but it too must be a Philson since I play
Neil Peart most excellently also! As a matter of fact, they're so easy
to play, I can switch back and forth between guitar and drums many times,
and "on beat", in a single song! I also play air keyboard, but not very
well because I know it's not a Philson! It's a "Borg, Loqutis Special".
It's made of assimilated, inferior parts! Let me know if you have something
in a Steve Winwood style.

with zero-tapped humbuckers and the irridescent infrared pickplate.
Did you ever re-issue the double-neck 7/14 string bass? I particularly liked
the reverse neck
(you know, with the pickups and volume controls up by the left hand and just
the tuning pegs next
to the right hand, absolute genius! No more worrying about the body getting
in the way when you were
working your way up to fret 24 and beyond!!!)

Philson back in 1972, and "Air Paul" model in the colorless finish.
It was love at first strum...and thanks to the Philson technique it
didn't take a lot of strums before I was reelin' in the babes. I pity

Through years I have tried different instruments, but have never felt

shower. Also, it's a proven fact that when in the shower, you can sing
better because of the moisture of the steam on your vocal cords.

My mother bought me my first guitar when I was 11 years old and I gave
it up the same moment I got it. You see it's not as fun to use as my
broom. Best of all though, is just pretending to be playing. LAst
night I jammed for seven and a half hours, totally ripping up
harmonic minor, major, any scale name I could think of.
Every musical thought came to be instantly. It all comes straight
from my heart to the guitar without letting my brain and fingers get
in the way they did on my "real" guitar. Anyways thank you for
recognizing that air guitarists are real guitarists too. Buh-Bye

I can remember that golrious day like it was yesterday, that wonderful day
when I got my Philson. It was the special translucent model. Everyone
thought it was the best thing since the oxygen atom! Well, after many long
and tedious hours of practicing with a stereo, I eventually became an Air
Master,
and got enough gigs where I could afford some decent equipment. The first
item on
the list was the Philson 7500 watt Air Head with twelve 2 X 2 cabs. Man,
did that thing
scream! People could imagine me jamming halfway across the state! Those were
the glory days.
Some bastard swiped the gear out of my truck at a gig. Wait until I catch
up to him...

I really enjoyed your Easy Air Guitar... Would like to know more
about the design concepts that went into the Stratoblaster.
I have been working on the design of an Air Bass... So far this
combination of ingredients has given me the best resonance, volume,
and response. It also allows me to the the ability to perform longer
than other combinations that I've tried.
2 Cups Baked Beans (cooked in the water they soaked in)
1 Cup Onions
1/2 Cup Celery Chopped
2 Cups Tomatoes
6 Cups Soup Stock (made with lots of bullion cubes)
1/4 Stick of Butter
little handful of Flour
1 pack of Wieners... cut up into little sections
Stir up everything and eat it all... Top with Schreaded Cheese if desired...
In about 1 hour you should be up for about 24 to 48 hours of Bass Air Guitar

I have been playing the 6-string acoustic for a year now, so imagine my delight
on my nineteenth birthday last week when I recieved a brand new Stratoblaster
and a 4 x 12 cab. I was ecstatic! For months now I have spent hours wearing
out the pages of my guitar magazines, searching for the guitar of my dreams.
Then I went to a party and had a life-changing experience. There in the middle
of the floor was a greasy guy in an old Iron Maiden "Aces High" T-Shirt playing
slide riffs with a bottle of Miller on his 1964 Stratoblaster along to AC/DC
records. It was so beautiful I could have cried. It was then that I realised
that the only guitar on the planet that could release my full musical potential
was the Philson Stratoblaster. I begged and pleaded with my parents and my
family to chip in to get this formidable instrument. The answer was always
the same. "You can't get another one until you learn to play the one you've
got, son. How about classical lessons instead?". "No Dad. I NEED a
Stratoblaster". "You've got to be kidding! Do you think we're made of money?
Have you any idea how much those things cost? I mean, you spend every waking
moment sitting up in your room playing your lousy music, you won't get yourself
a job, you're a burden to your mother and I. I just don't know what to do
with you. I mean tell me, What do you want to DO with your life?"

(Incidentaly I'd be interested to know whether any old Twisted Sister fans
actually got that last bit. Sorry. I'll get back to the story.)
My parents realised at that point that there was nothing they could do but
to get me the guitar. And last week, there it was in all its (22 fret, two
colour sunburst with Bud Philson locking trem) glory. Of course I instantly
invited all my musical companions round and we had a little jam session.
My friend Louise (hot chick) played a mean 6-string fretless bass solo. Look
out for us! We hope to get some Gigs in the area pretty soon.
Finally can I just say to everyone at Philson, "THANK YOU! You've transformed
my life from meaningless existance to something altogether more spiritual
and fulfilling. I am also a babe magnet now, Two Pete Townshend windmill
swings and I can hardly see for chicks. Thank you Bud!!!

As far as this Air Geetar business, it's serious business and you shouldn't
ought to encourage folks to try it without proper "hands on" expierence.
Why just the other day I had my hands on a young filly who was looking to
play. I was trying to show her a thing or two as I have had many years of
Air play, I've been playing since I was knee high to a C note. I ain't braggin
'o course, but I have developed into quite a player. I can play standing,
sitting, driving, lying down, behind my back and probably even standing on
my head, if'n I could stand on my head that is.
Anyway's, like I was saying, I'm a showing this little gal a thing or two
and I'm not sure she was learning anything but I'm enjoying it quite a bit
myself, how to hold it, how to strum, even some fret slides. Musta been something
I said but she gave me a kinda funny look and took off ta running home.
I didn't think much about it 'til her Papa came by later that day, totin
a double barrel shot gun. Said If'n I wanted to be getting any more "hands
on" time I ought to be looking for somebody my own age.
Can ya imagine that? His wife didn't seem to mind when she kept coming over
for them "lessons".
Anyways, y'all be damn careful with that stuff. It's as powerfull as a keg
'o dyn-o-mite!

Japan and come to the club(which is called LIVE HOUSE), you can see a lot
of air guitar freaks there.
Anyway, I mean as today's young musicians are "imitator" more or less, I
feel there is no difference between real guitar and air guitar.
Only we need is soul to play rock'n roll.
Do not need "right hand" nor "speedy fingerling. It is OK if you can make
girls crying by your play.

Absolutely amazing !!! Our singer, didn't understand shit about music.
Not only would he get bored during rehearsals, he'd also walk off
stage during solos for beers.
Since we got him a Philson Stratoblaster, not only does he know the
words of the songs we play, now he knows the tunes !!! Just a week
ago, he totally stunned us actually playing Gary Moore's one note 30
second solo on Parisienne Walkaways. We first thought he locked his
back, but after closer examination, we found out he was bending the
low E air string by 2 WHOLE OCTAVES !!! Trying as hard as we could, we
never broke a string on the air guitar. Also, the Stratoblaster
is the *total must have* to get the best out of harmonizers, loop
machines and kazoos.
We never thought getting a Philson Stratoblaster would fill up and
do so much for our sound. Save your back and roadie / tekkie service
money, forget the Hammond and Les Paul, get a Philson ! Not only will
people listen to what you play, they'll even start looking at you !!!
Now that's adding color to music. Playing pub gigs is a treat now we
get the audience to bring their own air guitars to play along and try
to lock up in chop matches with us. We still keep though an old
Stratocaster as a club in case someone actually manages to snatch
the Stratoblaster and tries to run away with it.

dude, i took my phison to my local guitar shop and had the guy put on
34 humbuckers. they're everywhere, man. i got 2 on the head, a couple
on the neck and the fretboard, and they're all over the body. i can
talk into my guitar, man. it picks up crowd noise. what else is cool
is the amp i had built in. somehow my guitar has retained that
cool-ass philson sound, but at unheard-of volumes. sometimes, when i

I was amazed when I picked up my Philson and was playing within minutes....this
beats any learn the guitar books and videos that I have seen advertized.
Some of the coolest songs that I have come up with to play on the Stratoblaster
are Anything by AIR SUPPLY, "Winds of Change" by scorpions, and lets not
forget the classic Free Bird. I strongly recomend that anyone who has any

I customized my Philson recently so it converts from electric to
semi-acoustic to acoustic. But the hard to find items are, effects
pedals that make that silent sound amplify into earth shattering
reverb, an amp big enough to handle the awesome sound of the Philson,
a double necked model for 6 and 12 string play and finally really
bitchin' Boston (the group) style effects. I guess that smart guy
will have to get out of jail(again.)
Philson you make a great product. I am interested in a signature
series. Also some more lessons might help me achieve my goal, to
continue playing the best air guitar of all time. I have even
mastered playing my Philson while I drive.

Years ago it started from Led Zep´s "Airway To Heaven". Getting
started wasn´t so easy, but after a few years of practise it´s
been
just a blast. Nowadays I have several Philsons, for example Eric
Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan -models, but the dearest one is my 1968
-model white Philson Stratoblaster. I´m a big Hendrix fan, but because
I´m right-handed, I play my left-handed Stratoblaster upside down.
I really would buy a fuzz-face and a Wah-wah and perhaps some other
efects too, so I could do numbers like "Crosstown Air-Traffic".
For Air Guitar beginners I can truly recommend records like:
* Derek & Dominos: "Layla, and other assorted Air Guitar songs"
* J.Hendrix: "Airectic Ladyland", "Are you Air Experienced", "Air:Bold as
Love"
* AC/DC: "For those about to Air Guitar, we salute you"
Though I also play Air Bass and Air Drums, Air Guitar is my life.

I style my air guitar playing off of George Lynch and Jeff Pilson's
"Heavy Metal Posuer." I have yet to hurt myself too bad doing all
those "windmills...spins... deep knee bends... heavy metal faces..."

A friend of mine has a friend who has band specializing on air guitar
encores. Generally the audience wants to hear only the encores, which
gives a whole new meaning to the word "encore".
Myself, I am considering to apply for a job at the Club. Is anybody

Just some helpful comments about what you left out. There's no position posted
on how to hold your Philson if your into the grunge or alternative scene.
To help you out, the position is somewhere between the rock and heavy metal
positions. It's sorta where yer slouched, but not too much, and your arms
need to be hanging as low as possible since this position requires your strap
to be really low. I'd like to know how I could be an Authorized Philson
Distributer. Also, do you have a schedule on up coming concerts in the Seattle
area?

Help, I've lost my chops. I was told by someone I trusted that learning how
to play a regular guitar would improve my air guitar technique. The opposite
is, in fact, true! Once I learned how to play on my Fender Telecaster my
air guitar chops disappeared and now I can't jam with my coworkers in the
