Separation Techniques

Duotones, Tritones etc.

These techniques are generally used to reproduce black and white photographs. In offset they are employed to add a cast or tint to the image. In screen printing they can be used to a similar end but more often are used to extend the limited tonal range of the medium and yield a more continuous tone or photographic appearance. This technique can also be used on dark garments using negatives and printing with white ink.
