Childhood was a Dream

Amy Papile

My Childhood was a dream,
When I was 4 I was playing dolls
When Iqubal was 4 his dad sold him to a carpet owner.

At 5 years of age I was coming home
from school with finger paintings,
Iqubal was slumped over a loom.

On my 6th birthday I played with my friends
Iqubal only dreamed about playing.

At ages 8, 7 and 9 I was signing up for soccer
Iqubal would only be working in the mill.

On my 10th birthday I had sleep over parties
Iqubal was planning his escape.

My childhood was a dream
Iqbals childhood was a horrid reality.
