Miguel Angel de los Santos Cruz, 30, a Mexican lawyer who devotes himself to helping the brutally oppressed indigenous people in the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico. Taking cases no one else will touch, he helps the poorest, least educated people in his country fight for their rights against wealthy landlords, local bosses and government officials. "The jails are full of people who have no idea why they are there," he said. "Those who organize for peaceful protest are met with violence, assassination, torture and incarceration."
