1000 Marys
A film by Christina Gruppuso

"1000 Marys" is an exploration of iconography of the Virgin Mary from Early Christian to Modern painting. The way your eye would travel over a single painting, the camera travels over hundreds of images of Mary, discovering the many ways artists have revered her smile, hands, eyes, and the baby Jesus himself.

Christina Gruppuso grew up in Massachusetts with her parents and twin sister, and attended Rhode Island School of Design, where she received her BFA in Animation in June 2001. She has made two films: Twenty and Pale (May, 2000), and 1000 Marys (May, 2001). Both films use cut-out and replacement techniques.
